Who we are
We’re the Walsh family — a crew of four setting off on an 8 month adventure from Newport, Rhode Island down the East Coast and across to the Bahamas aboard our 50-foot trawler, Nanook. What began as a dream slowly turned into a plan and now, it’s our floating home and classroom.
Adam
Navigator, engineer, and the steady hand behind the helm. When he’s not keeping Nanook’s twin Cat diesels humming or charting our next passage, Adam continues his full-time career as a financial advisor, often taking calls from the pilothouse. He also serves as a US Navy Intelligence Officer, spending one weekend a month at the Pentagon. Whether troubleshooting a system, managing client portfolios, or leading his unit, Adam brings calm, focus, and purpose to everything he does.
Lauren
The captain of creativity and chief organizer of all things afloat. Lauren keeps Nanook running smoothly. From plotting our course and reading the ever-changing skies, stocking the galley and homeschooling our adventurous boys, she does a little bit of everything.
Ben (11)
Our resident historian and deep thinker, Ben is endlessly curious. When he’s not buried in a book or crafting one of our blog posts, you’ll find him exploring a museum, perfecting his lacrosse shot on deck, or scouting out the nearest skatepark wherever we happen to be.
Theo (8)
The heart and humor of the crew. Theo brings energy, creativity, and determination to everything he does. From learning to read on the high seas, teaching himself to play ukulele or hauling lines at the dock. He reminds us to not take life too seriously and to always savor the small moments.
Together, we’re trading schedules for tides and structure for discovery. We’re learning what it means to live slowly, simply, and side by side. Follow along as we navigate, learn, and explore one harbor, one sunrise, and one salty day at a time.
