Departure Day

Saturday morning came early and full of mixed feelings. After all the planning and talking about “the big trip,” it was finally time to go. The harbor was calm, the air was chilly, and the sky was just starting to turn pink when Ghee and Poppy came out on the launch to say goodbye. We waved and waved until they were tiny dots behind us. It was really sad to say goodbye. Especially for Theo who took it pretty hard.

As we motored out of Newport harbor, Aunt Sisi and Uncle Amo went out to Castle Hill Lighthouse to wave goodbye. Uncle Amo even flew his drone and took some awesome photos and videos of Nanook heading out to sea. It was amazing to see his drone swoop so close to us! I cant wait to learn how to fly. our drone.

Once we left Narragansett Bay, we pointed the bow west toward Mystic Seaport. The trip was smooth and we got to do something really cool. We had to call two bridges on the radio and ask them to open for us! The first one was the Mystic River railroad bridge, which rotates sideways to let boats pass. The second was the Mystic highway bridge, and that one lifts straight up on one end. Watching those giant bridges move just for us was pretty awesome.

We arrived safely at Mystic Seaport Marina and tied up for two nights. It felt good to be in our first stop after a long day on the water. Theo’s going to write our next post all about exploring Mystic and the Seaport, so stay tuned!
