New York City
I woke up and I was a bit cold, so I pulled up my covers and I tried to go back to sleep. But I had this slight tingle telling me “stay awake! You’re going to do something fun today!”. And I’m happy I trusted that tingle because I ended up having a great day.
I rolled out of my bunk and took off my sleeping bag suit. I walked into my parents bedroom and hopped into their warm and cozy bed. After a few minutes of snuggling they said “its time to get up”, so I jumped out of their bed and walked upstairs and plopped down onto the couch. It was kind of chilly with just my thin pajamas, so I put my sleeping bag suit back on. Mom made pancakes, but I had a bagel that I bought the day before. It was nice to have a New York bagel again after being in Newport for the entire summer. While I was eating my breakfast I did my school work. I worked on my math and did 14 math questions. That was 2 lessons with 7 questions each. We can also write that as 2 x 7 = 14 ! After math I did Explode the Code, which is writing work.
After I finished my school work and my warm, tasty bagel, I scurried down stairs to put my clothes on. We were planning on going to New York Yacht club so I put on a nice shirt and a pair of nice pants. I then scurried back upstairs with my nice clothes on and played a math game while we waited for the water taxi. The water taxi came about five minutes later and it brought us to the town dock where we hopped off and got an Uber to the train station. We got to the train station just in time with one minute to spare and we ran on board.
The train brought us from Port Washington to Penn Station. Here are some of the stations we stopped at before Penn Station that I remember. Manhasset, Little Neck, Great Neck, and finally we arrived at Penn Station! We got off the train and went out of Penn Station and into New York City. It was so nice to finally be back! We walked through Times Square and found a comic book store that we had been to a few times before. We walked up the steep staircase into Midtown Comics. The store has a bunch of walls filled with comic books. They have an upstairs that has even more comics and action figures. I found an antique Superman comic book and a cool Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book. Ben found another awesome TMNT comic book. We went down stairs and paid for our 3 comic books and continued our adventure.
We went to lunch at this awesome ramen resturant called Ichiran. When you walk in you order before you sit down. I ordered a classic ramen that I split with my Mom. My brother got his own spicy ramen. We walked into the room where you eat and we were amazed to see that we each sat in our own little booth. The booth had walls around it that made it so you couldnt see anyone around you. There were booths to the left and the right and there was a little bamboo shade at the front of the booth. The waiter would serve you by opening the shade. My shade opened and a big bowl of steaming hot ramen appeared in front of me. One other bowl came with it so I could split it with my mom who was in the booth next to me. There was a button that you could press to have your waiter come and open up your shade and help you. I pressed the button because I wanted a fork. After a few seconds the waiter was there and I asked him if he could get me a fork. Before I knew it he was back with my fork.
The ramen tasted even better because I was able to focus on my food without any distractions. The flavors were so rich. It felt like my taste buds were going to explode! I cant wait to come back some time soon!
Next, we walked to the National Museum of Math. My favorite part of the museum was the square wheeled tricycle. It rode on a bumpy track that allowed it be able to roll. Why a circle rolls super easily on flat ground is because it has many many points that touch the ground at once but a square only has one big point that touches the ground. To allow a square to roll you have to put bumps in the track. These half circle bumps are called inverted catenaries. They allow the square to roll by keeping the axel in the same spot. Here is a video so you can understand a little bit more.
After a long day, we got back on the train and headed towards Port Washington. We got off the train and walked to a nice restaurant where we met some of our friends and had dinner. After dinner we got dropped off at the dock, hopped in the dingy and zoomed home! I put on my pj’s, slipped on my sleep suit and climbed into my bunk. I was nice and warm and it felt good to be back on the boat!
