My Favorite Activity- Wake Surfing
Many parts of this trip have been fun, but one thing that stands out the most for me has been wake surfing. Wake surfing is basically towing behind our dingy on a surfboard. I like wake surfing because it is a little bit of home I get to connect with because it provides the same type of adrenaline I get from skiing.
To wake surf you are in the water behind the dingy. You have a tow rope that you hold in front of you while laying on the board. The first step is to try to get on your knees while the dingy accelerates. Once on both your knees you wait 5-10 seconds, depending on how good you are and how balanced you are, before pushing your dominant foot into the front of the board. From there you stand up on the board, but you need the dingy to be going even faster. After that you can start to try and get outside the wake by putting pressure on your heel or toe rail, depending on which side of the wake you want to be on.
The sensation of wake surfing is super cool. It gets your blood pumping and makes me happy. Its been cool seeing my development and how when I started, I struggled just to get on my knees and now Im able to pop right up and get into the wake and make some sweet carving turns. One of my favorite parts of wake surfing down here is how warm the water is. It feels like a bathtub! And the color the water looks like blue gatorade!
Here are some videos of my brother and mom wake surfing off Monument Beach in George Town.
