Trip Home- Three Weeks of Skiing, Snow, Friends and Family
We planned a trip back home to Vermont so we could do some downhill skiing and some cross country racing. We were also excited to see friends and family. Dad dropped us off in Georgetown so we could get a taxi to the airport. Mom was flying with us, but dad had to stay behind until our friends came down to watch the boat for us. We got to the small airport in Georgetown and hopped on a plane to Charlotte and then another plane to Albany.
We landed in Albany and man…..it was COLD! We went outside to wait for our Uber and saw snow for the first time since last April. We immediately started making snowballs and threw them at each other. After a few minutes the car arrived and we hopped in and headed to Londonderry. We arrived at the house just before midnight. We were so tired from a long day of travel that we fell fast asleep the second our heads hit our pillows.
The next morning we woke up early to watch the olympics. Ben Ogden, who grew up on our street and nordic skied in the same program we do, won SILVER. It was so cool to watch him race!
We had to get all of our gear and winter clothes together and ready for skiing. Mom didn’t realize we grew so much so we had to run around and find stuff to borrow from friends. (Thank you Conns for being our very own ski shop!)
The next day we had ski race camp at Okemo. It was nice to be back on skis again and at the same time, pretty weird. It was fun to see all of our friends. Our coaches said that we did well.
I was invited to go see my class at Flood Brook and tell them about my adventure. Not everyone knew I was coming in and when they saw me, they were very surprised. Most ran over to ask about my trip, but some friends I had seen skiing at Bromley, so we had already caught up. I was happy to see all of my friends and teachers for the first time in a while. We went through what we were doing that day and then we had some time for me to present about our trip. My class thought it was really cool. I cant wait to be back with all my friends next school year.
Ben is going to write the second half.
Bye!

Ben here.
Going back to Vermont was a lot of fun. I got to see a lot of my friends and I visited Long Trail School (where I will be going next year). I did a ton of nordic skiing at Viking, Wild Wings and Stratton. I did a few races in Vermont and placed in the top 3 every one. I was worried that not being on skis for so long would cause me to do poorly, but I did pretty well, considering. Maybe it was the roller skiing in Man-O-War that kept me sharp lol
My grandparents and my aunt Sisi and Uncle Amo came up to visit for a few days. It was nice to see them and spend time together.
At the end of our trip Dad made it back to VT and we headed to New Hampshire for the Bill Koch League festival. The BKL festival is a huge cross country event that happens every March. There are around 600 athletes that compete. There are a lot of fun activities, great food and lots of friends. There are a lot of races throughout the day and its fun to watch and cheer people on. Saturday was the classic relay. It was a difficult race because the conditions kept changing and it was hard to get the wax and kick right. My partner and I placed 12th. The next day was the individual skate race. I placed in the top half.
We flew back to the Bahamas and our grandparents met us on the way down. They spent one week on the boat with us cruising around. It was really fun to show them some of our favorite places.
Thanks for reading!
